Lieutenant Samuel Graves Irwin, of the royal navy, who has for some years resided with his family in West Maitland, has received an official intimation from the Lords of the Admiralty that he has been promoted to the rank of a commander, agreeable to the provisions of the Order in Council, bearing date the 1st November, 1830."(The Maitland Mercury & Hunter River General Advertiser, 29/7/1843)
