How was the archive created ?

The archive grew over time both in numbers and in type of information recorded. Many of the earlier entries need to be updated and are a work in progress.

Who supplies the data?

The Archive is a community-based effort. Records are supplied by people like yourself. Some of us are experienced researchers and some have never done anything like this before. The records also reflect how much data is publicly available on any given individual. The records vary according to the skill of the researcher and the publicly available data. Each record has passed a basic fact check.

What is the archive intended for?

The NGP is intended to be both a starting point for researching an individual’s naval service who are interred within Australia and an online Memorial to them. It is not meant to be the biography of an individual.

How accurate is the data?

There will be errors and omissions. The nature of the Naval Graves Project and the data base allow for records to be updated and corrected.

I have found an error how do I correct it ?

Please use the Register a Grave function. On step 3 click YES on the is this an update question. Use the notes section to supply additional information if required.

My naval person was scattered at sea or off a headland etc, how do I register them?

Sadly, there are no official records open to us to confirm these types of interments. The purpose of the NGP was to identify burial sites or cremation niches and we are unable to record/confirm interments outside this scope. I founded the Project, but I will not be recorded in the archive as I have seen far too many neglected graves and I choose to be scattered on the sea.

A Photograph I own the Copyright to has been used without my permission. What can I do?

We apologise for any errors of this nature, sometimes contributors do not understand the nature of photographs and ownership, despite our best efforts some photographs get through. Please email us the details and your proof of copyright so we can remove the image or better still consider allowing us to display the image with your copyright details included.
