Served in the Napoleonic Wars first as Mate in HMS Leda from 1803-1805 before becoming Assistant Surgeon in the ship. Then as Surgeon in HM ships Minerva, Solebay, Note Burial register gives death as 1 Dec 1841 However Inscription reads..... WILL TAKE PHOTO Sacred/ to the / Memory /of / John Inches, Surgeon/ R.N. who departed; this life on / the 3 February 1842 / aged 55 years / His affectionate widow and children / have erected this stone as a tribute / to the best of husbands and most / affectionate of fathers.
