Colin served with distinction in the R.A.N. 18 October 1954 – 2 April 1978, paying off as W.O. Coxn. On 10 February 1964, he miraculously survived the sinking of HMAS Voyager, and in 1974 received a Flag Officers Commendation, and Sailor of the Year for exceptional dedication as Chief Coxswain of HMAS Torrens commanded by Captain David J. Martin, during it's escort of the Royal Yacht Britannia and Royal Family from Norfolk Island to Rabaul PNG, February 1974 ...
Through the Subsection, Colin was instrumental in forming Training Ship TS Nepean in 1977 as it's first Commanding Officer, before the Unit was formally commissioned by the R.A.N. as an Australian Naval Cadet Unit in 1981, and he played a big role in the construction of a building for the Cadets on the Nepean River, now being developed into a Naval and Maritime Museum with the Unit being moved to the Orchard Hills Defence Establishment..
