Notes

Battle of Cocos Island. In 1927 became the 1st Australian Director of medical Services. He was a pioneer of the medical branch as among his many achievements he encouraged Medical Officers to specialise and introduced sub branch specialisation for sailors. He introduced changes of practice to suit Australian conditions and also was able to increase pay rates for the medical branch
