1st WRITER EMIL CHRISTENSEN 1990 RAN.
Emil Christensen was born in Brisbane in February 1895 and enlisted in the RAN as a Boy Writer in July 1912 on HMAS Gayundah, transferring to the training ship HMAS Tingira the following month. Emil was the first born of five children of Jacob and Caroline Christensen.
He was promoted to Writer 3rd Class in February 1913 and remained onboard Tingira until December 1916, probably as Ship’s Company. On leaving Tingira he served on the Torpedo Boat Destroyers HMAS Swan, being advanced to Writer 2nd Class in February 1917, and HMAS Parramatta. He served in Malay waters and the Mediterranean and Black Seas. He returned to Australia on Swan in May 1919 having been advanced to Writer 1st Class the previous February. Emil discharged from the RAN in July 1919, “Services No Longer Required”.
In 1922, Emil married Kathleen Dunn in Sydney and the couple moved to Bundaberg where Emil’s parents were residing. They later moved to Clayfield in Brisbane in the late 1920s where Emil worked as a manager and in the 1950s he was a company director living on the Mornington Peninsular in Victoria.
Emil Christensen passed away on the 7th of November 1984. His body was cremated, and his ashes interred in the Springvale Botanical Cemetery in Victoria, Plot: Brind, Wall AJ, Niche 02
