Early surveyor of Australian waters 1818-1821 with Capt Phillip Parker King and Lt John Septimus Roe onboard HMS Mermaid. Returned to NSW 1827. Served with Sir George Cockburn at Cadiz and Chesapeake. Said to be one of those in the Guard who took Napolean to St Helenas and is said to have brought cuttings from the willow over Napolens tomb to Paterson NSW.
