An RANR AB, B1088 from Sep 1939 to May 1946.
The dates for Wilfred just don't quite gel. He was born in Apr 1913 per his Service Record, he died in Aug 1984 at 68y per the plaque on his grave, but those dates make him 71y and 4m old. There might be a clue in his Service Record; his seniority was set to 1 Jul 1933 with "(FE in 05 15 1932, AB 1 7 33)" after it. This would make him 20y 3m old on first enlistment (of which I can find no record). Let us pretend for a little while that he was 68y at the time of passing, this would mean birth in Apr 1916, which in turn would mean 17y 3m on first entry, (as I understand it, too young). Was this an accidental missunderstanding or a deliberate act to mislead, so that he could serve? Or maybe age 68 on his plaque is a typo. I have found a birth record on the Qld BDM register for a Wilfred John Warren on 2 Apr 1916, so I think we know the right answer. Pinnaroo Cemetery and Crematorium, Bridgeman Downs, Qld.(Intriguing side note; DC Ayton, the only other Sailor I've identified in Pinnaroo that has had dates that don't quite add up, is buried in the neighbouring plot at 6ANZ-1222.
