James was a Defensively Equipped Merchant Ships, (D.E.M.S.) sailor.Numerous Royal Navy personnel died while registered with HMS President III, often due to the sinking of merchant ships they were defending.I have not found any reference to an HMS Leeuwin, but I do get plenty of HMAS Leeuwin results. I'm wondering if the HMS on the CWGC website is a typo and it should be HMAS? (It is possible since HMAS Leeuwin was commissioned in August 1940 as the naval depot for Fremantle.)
