STOKER RICHARD MICHAEL MALLOY 14918 RAN
Richard Malloy was born in Kingstown Ireland (now Dun Laoghaire), the son of William and Jane Malloy in October 1903. He enlisted in the RAN in November 1924 and was rated as a Stoker 2nd Class. After six months training at HMAS Cerberus he posted to the Light Cruiser HMAS Adelaide in May 1925.
Richard served in Adelaide until August 1927, he was advanced to Stoker in October 1925. In June 1928 he posted to the Light Cruiser HMAS Brisbane, however he would become a victim of the reduction of the RAN because of the Great Depression and he discharged to shore in late 1929. He had multiple disciplinary charges and was deprived of his Long Service and Good Conduct Badge in 1928 after receiving seven days in cells. The year after he discharged a police warrant was issued against him for child desertion by a Marjorie Norris.
Richard left Sydney and in 1933 married Daisy Scrivener in Bowraville NSW, they would have a daughter Maureen in 1935.
In June 1943 Richard re-entered the RAN and posted to the sloop HMAS Warrego building at Cockatoo Island Dockyard. He remained on Warrego until July 1941 and was discharged Permanently unfit for Naval Service that month with asthma.
Richard Malloy passed away on the 16th of May 1992, he was cremated and his ashes interred in the memorial wall at Lavertys Funeral Home in Macksville NSW.
