Defensively Armed Merchant Ship (DEMS) LIEUTENANT HOWARD CYRIL VICTOR KNIGHT RANVR. Howard Knight was born in Cottesloe Western Australia 0n the 12th of April 1908. He was a merchant in Perth when he was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in the RANVR on the 28th of April 1942 at HMAS Leeuwin before undertaking training at HMAS Cerberus and HMAS Lonsdale in Melbourne. He was promoted to probationary Lieutenant in November 1942. He served as a DEMS Gunnery Officer and receiving officer and at sea on HMAS Korowa, HMAS Maitland, HMAS Beryl II and HMAS Wagga. In August 1945, Howard married Mavis Curtin and on demobilisation on the 22nd February 1946. He later ran a dry cleaning business in Perth. Lieutenant Howard Knight passed away in Perth on the 8th of March 1985 aged 75. He was cremated at Karrakatta Crematorium and his ashes are interred, along side those of his wife in Karrakatta Ic Section 0003. A photo on ancestry indicates that the plot is a small square area around a Palm tree.
