Notes

Battle of Cocos Island Awarded the Distinguished Service Medal for gallantry in the Sydney-Emden battle for throwing burning cordite overboard whilst already wounded. According to National Archives file MP472/1, 1/16/1743 - HMAS. The book Bravo Zulu records that Green was already wounded at the time and continued to serve his gun till he collapsed. It also records the DSM was awarded to 3 other AB's #838 Joseph Kinniburgh, #4385 Harold Collins & William Taylor plus #4387 CPO Arthur Lambert
