Notes

DSM citation reads "Displayed personal courage of the highest order when dealing with booby traps and under fire. On Oct 18 when on operations on Cam Thanh Island, 20 miles south of Da Nang, a US sailor was fatally wounded by a booby-trapped 105mm shell and two South Vietnamese slightly wounded. With complete disregard for his own safety and under fire from three sides. Leading Seaman Aldenhoven first assisted the wounded to cover and then returned three times across 50 meters of open ground to recover weapons and ammunition that would have otherwise fallen into enemy hands."
